If you have anything in common with us, you agree that certain vehicles look a million times cooler with the right lift. Can you image a Jeep Wrangler without a lift kit? It looks bland! But with a lift, it looks bad (the good kind of bad). Lift kits raise your vehicle's clearance giving your vehicle a more sporty look and allowing for bigger tires and off-road driving.
There are actually two types of lift kits, body lift kits and suspension lift kits. A body lift kit raises the body of your vehicle up a few inches while leaving the suspension and wheels at their original height. This is done by adding spacers over the vehicles' original body mount bushings. This type of lift shouldn't affect your ride quality or handling in any way. This lift is less expensive due to a less strenuous installation, as well as the fact that you may not need to purchase new shocks or a wheel alignment. Vehicle's with this lift can still retain the factory suspension geometry and alignment.
Suspension kits raise the height of the vehicle's suspension. This is a more labor intense installation, however, the end result gives vehicles the highest lift options. The vehicle's stock suspension components are replaced with bigger/longer components. This can dramatically increase the vehicle's tire clearance.
- Highest ground clearance
- Articulated suspension
- Increased tire clearance
- Most cost-effective
- Don't affect drive quality
Cons of Suspension Lift
Cons of Body Lift
- Can affect handling
- More timely installation
- Smaller ground clearance
- Vehicle frame is more visible
